Senior Dentistry
As we age, our teeth start presenting more symptoms of decay.
However, seniors still deserve healthy teeth and gums.
Recommendations for Seniors
We tend to make different recommendations for seniors because there are different considerations to take into account. For instance, people might make different decisions on tooth decay.
A person in their 20s…
might opt for the root canal and the crown. Even when the procedure costs $1500, a younger person would likely choose to save their tooth.
A person in their 80’s…
is less likely to want to spend that much money on a tooth. For $150, we can simply pull the tooth.
For elder patients, we try to avoid expensive or invasive treatment. If there are no signs of infection or terrible pain, preventative treatments are much easier and affordable. We tend to use Silver Diamine Fluoride (SDF), which we also use on children to avoid invasive procedures. Of course, if a patient prefers a procedure, we are happy to abide by their request as long as it’s safe.
